It is still used today for both residential and commercial applications and commonly found helping with waterproofing solutions in flashings, valleys and gutters. Lead is one of the most effectively recycled products around the world and more lead is produced from the recycling process than from mining! This makes it a very sustainable building product. Lead makes a great choice for roofing for many reasons, lead is extremely malleable which means it can be wrapped around and over odd shapes on a roof. It expands and contracts with the weather making it well suited to the Australian climate. Lead is waterproof, extremely long lasting and requires low maintenance.
